“Gardingane”*** is a local name for the people who lived on the rugged farms along the 26-kilometer-long Fjærlandsfjord. Since the 19th century, the area has attracted discerning travelers. This is where the glacier arms reached furthest down to the fjord—a truly unique heritage from when the village was called “Fjordland” in Norse times.
